The quintessential hotel experienceThe quintessential hotel experience

HOSHINOYA Tokyo lies in the city's economic center amid a landscape of buildings owned by financial and media giants. In contrast with its grand facade, the 17-story hotel offers a relaxed ambience with a sense of intimacy and surprise--qualities that are rooted in traditional Japanese hospitality. Each floor is an exclusive domain, accessible only by the guests staying there, and with a dedicated staff in place to meet their every need--as well as to maintain the elegant customs that have been honored for centuries at traditional Japanese inns known as ryokan.

Gateways to Japan's best-kept secrets

Classic simplicity

Classic simplicity

A ryokan is designed to offer respite in ways that aren't apparent right away. The gentle aroma of seasonal flowers and incense drifts through the halls and rooms of the building, where guests are welcome to wander freely and feel at home. Rooms are cleanly designed, furnished minimally with pristine futons and other essentials. A deep bathtub invites guests to take a relaxing soak. Simple but elegant, the arrangement provides a sense of ease.

Seasonal delights

Seasonal delights

Unofficially, there are seventy-two seasons in Japan. This is fitting for a country with such varied terrain and differing climates within such a small landmass. A good ryokan is tuned into the best a location has to offer during each of those seasons, and will present that through the decor, the tea offered during the day, the food and drink served at night, and the captivating aromas that permeate the building, ensuring that no two days will offer the same experience.

A true sense of place

A true sense of place

A ryokan is a compact universe built from the history, traditions, aesthetics, skills, creativity, and customs that define its locality. These elements are scattered inconspicuously throughout the building to give guests a tangible, yet understated, feeling of having stepped into a wonderfully unfamiliar world. The joy of staying at a ryokan is discovering a whole new way of relaxation, and then realizing that it is a product of the very location one has come to visit.

A distinctly Japanese form of relaxation

Every floor, a ryokan

Every floor, a ryokan

Every floor is covered by a seamless mosaic of tatami mats that extends from the central lounge to the rooms via a single hallway, enhancing the feeling that guests are staying in their very own private ryokan. The rooms are compact and furnished with futons made of soft-to-the-touch cotton and a bathtub for long, relaxing soaks. The lounge, meanwhile, serves as a center for activity where guests may read a book, do some work, or enjoy snacks and refreshments that change throughout the day.

Ochanoma Lounge

Ochanoma Lounge

Every ryokan has an ochanoma—a lounge that serves as an exclusive living and dining room for guests staying there. This is HOSHINOYA's unique take on the room. It contains a library and is furnished with desks and sofas; but its main role is to provide access to the best flavors and aromas that Japan has to offer at any time of the year. Teas, sakes, specialty coffees, and snacks are brought in from all over the country to enhance the season, as well as the time of day.

Stimulating mornings

Stimulating mornings

In the morning, guests wake up to the enticing aroma of soup drifting from the lounge. They are invited there to partake of seasonally flavored miso soup and bracingly seasoned rice balls. As the guests dine, staff are on hand to inform them about the weather and local events and, if guests desire, can offer an idea or two on how one might spend their day in Tokyo meaningfully.

Savoring the seasons

Savoring the seasons

The best food from every part of Japan culminates here in Tokyo—and the HOSHINOYA Tokyo restaurant is no exception. It offers surprising ryokan cuisine that brings out the richness in ingredients that normally go unappreciated. The ryokan also connects directly to a restaurant complex offering a wide variety of fare.

* As seating is limited, for the time being, guests staying at the resort will be given priority for reservations. Those who wish to dine on the premises during their stay should choose "Bed and Dinner" when making room reservations.

Dining for non-staying guests is welcome. Reservations are available up to 2 months in advance. Please call at +81-50-3786-1144.

One step outside the quiet confines of HOSHINOYA Tokyo lies the bustling Otemachi Financial City, a complex that houses a wide variety of dining establishments—from Chinese to Italian to cafes, open to the public.

A bath with a sky view

Through a softly lit corridor, a small interior bath feeds into an outdoor open-air bath. It is enclosed by walls, affording guests their privacy while providing an unobstructed view of the sky. Located on the top floor, the bath is the perfect place to enjoy Tokyo's seasons through the colors of the sky along with the winds that drift in.

Otemachi Hot Spring

Otemachi Hot Spring

In July 2014, in the area where the ryokan stands today, a hot spring was unearthed. Its highly alkaline waters help the body maintain its temperature, and can also effectively treat cuts, low blood circulation, and hypothermia. As the waters are also gentle on the skin, a leisurely dip can help reduce fatigue and revitalize the body's core.

SpaSpa

A ryokan-style spa

HOSHINOYA Tokyo's spa combines massage treatments that meet a variety of health and beauty needs with stretching exercises, hot spring dips, and oil treatments. Guests first warm up with stretching and hot spring dips before therapists check for any tension or pain. Then, therapists perform a massage that will help the guest's body reach its ideal physical condition.

Experiencing Tokyo, the traditional way

Experiencing Tokyo, the traditional way

Edo—as Tokyo was known 150 years ago—was a bustling city that pulsed with a frantic energy. It was this quality that gave rise to kabuki and other performing arts, neighborhood festivals, sumo, and fireworks events—all of which are still enjoyed today. In Tokyo, these forms of entertainment exist alongside more contemporary culinary, fashion, and artistic cultures that developed as the city opened its arms to other nations. The activities offered at HOSHINOYA Tokyo give guests the best of both of these worlds.
